12 October 2013 – Volunteer class – recycling

Most grateful that I did not miss that day class as the topic is something very close to my heart.

The story shared by an elderly lady (80 years old) really got me thinking. Her stories how she managed to change after participating in recycling touched me. She said that she has reminded herself not to get angry when her family members reminded her when she returned home late after recycling. She realized that getting angry would only “burn away” all her good blessings . This got me thinking. Am reminding myself to keep check of own anger.

Is easy to ignite anger in lay man

A clever person is one who will try to suppress own anger

A wise person is one who will do it without realizing that he/she is doing it. They are one who can tolerate insult without feeling a pinch ego.

6 paramitas (ways of practising dharma)

1) Charity

2) Keeping precepts

3) Tolerating insults

4) Diligence

5) Contemplation

6) Wisdom

6 October 2013 – Kuang Tamil primary school fa fang

6 October 2013 – Kuang Tamil primary school
Was really thrilled when Loh liu chiu see chea called to ask whether I’m free to join “deepavali fa fang “ on 6 October 2013. Without much hesitation, I agreed.

Little did I know that I was given an opportunity to serve the reception. An important task, I found out later as it was the first contact point for the recipients. There were 51 families involved where Tzu Chi distributed rice, oil, monies and hamper.

We met see shiong at Tzu Chi centre at 6.15am . So estatic that the 2 boys were willing to volunteer this event. Hopefully both would find much joy in serving and may they received bountiful harvest for giving reaps the greatest harvest. We reached the school soon and many volunteers were there. As this is our first time serving fa fang event, we learnt much on co- ordination and communicating. There were some touching scenes when kids started serving parents foods and bathed their feet. A big sized man shocked me when he started tearing up upon seeing her daughter serving him food and bathing his feet.

Parents loves are really boundless and with no strings attached. Deep inside, I was hoping that I could participate in the foot bathing event. Am sure will have that opportunity one of these days.

Another thing that really surprised me is how clean the school toilets are. The teachers are also very dedicated and they seemed to know each students by heart. An eye opener for me. Another humbling experience.
